And, by contrast, the loss of hope is turning out to be a stronger sign that a person may (38) _______ suicide than other factors long thought to be more likely risks. “Hope has proven a powerful predictor of (39) _______ in every study we’ve done so far,” said Dr. Charles R. Snyder, a psychologist who has devised a (40) _______ to assess how much hope a person has. (46)”____________________.” Part IV Reading Comprehension (Reading in Depth) (25 minutes) Section A Directions: In this section, there is a short passage with 5 questions or incomplete statements. Read the passage carefully. Then answer the questions or complete the statements in the fewest possible words. Please write your answers on Answer Sheet 2. Questions 47 to 51 are based on the following passage. Most young boys are trained to believe that men should be strong, tough, cool, and detached. Thus, they learn early to hide vulnerable emotions such as love, joy, and sadness because they believe that such feelings are feminine and imply weakness. Over time, some men become strangers to their own emotional lives. It seems that men with traditional views of masculinity are more likely to suppress outward emotions and to fear emotions, supposedly because such feelings may lead to a loss of composure (镇定). Keep in mind, however, that this view is challenged by some researchers. As with many gender gaps, differences in emotionality tend to be small, inconsistent, and dependent on the situation. For instance, Robertson and colleagues found that males who were more traditionally masculine were more emotionally expressive in a structured exercise than when they were simply asked to talk about their emotions. Males’ difficulty with “tender” emotions has serious consequences. First, suppressed emotions can contribute to stress-related disorders. And worse, men are less likely than women to seek help from health professionals. Second, men’s emotional inexpressiveness can cause problems in their relationships with partners and children. For example, men who endorse traditional masculine norms report lower relationship satisfaction, as do their female partners. Further, children whose fathers are warm, loving, and accepting toward them have higher self-esteem and lower rates of aggression and behavior problems. On a positive note, fathers are increasingly involving themselves with their children. And 30 percent of fathers report that they take equal or greater responsibility for their children than their working wives do. One emotion males are allowed to express is anger. Sometimes this anger translates into physical aggression or violence. Men commit nearly 90 percent of violent crimes in the United States and almost all sexual assaults. 47. Most young boys have been trained to believe that men who show tender feelings are considered to be ______________. 48. Some men believe that if they expressed their emotions openly they might ______________. 49. According to the author, men who suppress their emotions may develop ______________. 50. Men who observe traditional masculine norms are said to derive less satisfaction from ______________. 51. When males get angry, they can become ______________ or even commit violence.

2、选择解释类作文:比如2017年6月作文“suppose you are asked to give advice on whether to major inscience or humanities at college。” 3、意义措施类作文:比如2016年12月作文“essay on innovation.your essay should include the important of innovation and measures to be taken to encourage innovation.”(你的文章应该包括创造的重要性,和鼓励创造的措施。)

The impact of the Internet on interpersonal communication

要求:by commenting on "Dad:Hi sweetie, how was school, today? Daughter: You can read all about it on my blog, Dad"

1)The impact of the Internet on interpersonal communication;2)对于对话的评论:"Dad:Hi sweetie, how was school, today? Daughter: You can read all about it on my blog, Dad"

In contemporary society, our life is filled with a variety of anecdotes or stories, and the following is no exception: "Dad:Hi sweetie, how was school, today? Daughter: You can read all about it on my blog, Dad." This conversation can be naturally associated with the impacts of Internet on our life: In an era of Internet, the time for interpersonal communication is impaired by online chats or blogs.

Apparently, the impacts of the Internet on interpersonal communication are diverse. For one thing, as a vital invention, Internet brings great convenience to our communication, eliminates the barrier of distance, and helps humans to keep in touch wherever and whenever. For another, it is Internet that does not enables family members, friends or classmates to communicate more in a face-to-face way. One case in point is that youngsters may spend hours chatting with acquaintances through QQ or MSN, but rarely do they talk with other face to face. Unfortunately, it we let this trend to continue as it is, the interpersonal relationship will, definitely, become alienated or indifferent.

To my understanding, it is advisable for people to communicate more with their families, friends and acquaintances in real life instead of merely through the Internet. Do bear in mind: Internet is just a tool. (213words)

Directions:For this part, you are allowed 30 minutes to write a short essay based on thepicture below。You should focus on theimpact of social networking websites on reading。

  “I love reading。 I read about 3 hours aday。 My favorite book is Facebook。”

*Facebookis the name of a social networking website。

  Impact

Thepicture describes a conversation between two people, one of them said: “I readabout 3 hours a day。My favorite book is Facebook。”The picture intends toinform us that the Internet has exerted an important influence on reading forthe modern citizens。

The phenomenon involves many factors, which canbe listed as the follows。 To begin with, with the rapid development of scientific technology,The Internet has become indispensable in our daily life.Undoubtedly,it provides people with many advantages and makes our life morecomfortable and efficient, including the way of reading。What’s more,it is a moreadvanced way to get information needed by people, and an efficient way to searchfor materials。“I have hardly ever bought any books since 2003。I have beenreading online in recent years。”said professor Wang from Peking University。“With the click of the mouse, any stories or information that I want at anygiven time or place,is there。”she said。This may well explain why so manypeople now prefer to embrace the wonders of the Internet than read print copiesof book or any other reading material。

Every coin hastwo sides, reading in social networking websites is no exception。 Admittedly, there is false and useless information on the social networking websites, it isadvisable that we read more critically and carefully。

Graphically revealed in this cartoon is that two youngsters are having a conversation. However, the most striking feature of it is that the man on the left is saying without hesitation that he loves reading and his favorite book is Facebook. Apparently, the purpose of this cartoon unfolds a conspicuous fact that social networking websites exert adverse impacts on our reading.

Several factors can be responsible for this phenomenon. For one thing, with our science and economy enhanced remarkably, people in growing numbers tend to share their moments of life on social networks, and therefore, it is difficult for us to concentrate on what we want to read. For another, there are various kinds of information on the internet, and as a result, they may be easily distracted by other information so much that they may ignore what they are really interested in.

To sum up, social network websites may pose a potential and probable threat to our reading. We are supposed to spend more time on reading paper books instead of staying on the social networking websites. Only in this way can we gradually terminate the negative influence of social networking websites.

  Self-help Traveling of College Students

So called self-help traveling refers that travelers themselves arrange travel route, travel time, and all the other matters during travel, without any guide and team leader. Nowadays this kind of traveling model is gaining more and more popularity among college students. According to the survey, over 80% of college students prefer self-help traveling to following a tour group.

Why are college students so fond of self-help traveling? Above all, self-help traveling gives travelers more freedom and space. College students don’t like being restricted. They want to arrange their travel as they wish. Moreover, self-help traveling provides college students a good chance to improve their adaptability and viability. Besides, the expenses in self-help traveling are controlled by travelers themselves. It is a good choice for those college students who have not much money for their disposal.
As a college student, I enjoy self-help traveling very much, and I have benefited a lot from it. For one thing, I have appreciated many amazing scenery that those travelers who follow tour groups can not. For another, self-help travel helps me learn how to deal with people better.
